Improving the wellbeing of young people

Under it's core remit of health, HCF strives to improve the care, treatment experiences and outcomes for children who are sick or suffering from chronic or long-term conditions. Due to our focus on education we have a particular interest in supporting projects which provide or enhance access to educational opportunities for sick or life-limited children. To do this we partner with a range of expert charities that deliver care and treatment for young people.

The Foundation wants to ensure that young people who are sick or suffering from chronic and sometimes life-limiting conditions receive the best support possible. Through its targeted grant-giving, HCF identifies projects that enhance treatment experiences, provide support, care and condition management for sick young people and make a lasting difference to young people as they undergo treatment of receive therapy.

In 2012 HCF made 263 health grants. The total amount awarded in health grants in 2011 was £719,640.59.

Les P'tits Cracks, France

Les P'tits Cracks helps to support children with cancer by providing medical equipment as well as delivering activities to help build confidence and improve their physical condition. The charity received almost €3,133 (£3,000) from HCF in 2011, thanks to fundraising by colleagues at Trianon Palace, a Waldorf Astoria hotel.

During Easter 2011, 28 children with cancer were treated to a magical celebration thanks to team members at the hotel. Eddie Benghanem, the hotel's pastry chef, conducted a chocolate workshop for the children. In collaboration with his team, the chef introduced the children to the world of chocolate. The chocolate workshop was followed by a treasure hunt in the expansive gardens of the hotel. Finally, Les P'tits Cracks received a donation from the hotel to support their future activities with the children.
