Hilton in the Community Foundation

Application Process

The Foundation has a rigorous central grant application process which aims to identify the most effective projects helping disadvantaged young people in the UK and Ireland. Please see below for our application pack: guidelines, terms and conditions and an application form.

Central Grants - structure and approval process
Applications from registered charities in the UK and Ireland are first assessed by the Foundation office, with a shortlist of approximately 20 of the strongest and regionally representative applications put forward for consideration by the Grants Committee.

The Grants Committee comprises independent and Hilton nominated members, and meets quarterly to discuss the applications. There is approximately £150,000 available to distribute each quarter.

Applications working in the areas of education or health with one of our four chosen focus groups are selected or considered:

  • Children and young people with disabilities
  • Children and young people who are sick in hospital
  • Young people who are homeless
  • Young people and children who are life limited (requiring palliative care)

If favoured, grant applications for up to £10,000 can be approved by the Committee, and applications for more than £10,000 are recommended to the Trustees for final approval. There is no limit on the amount of money that a charity can request. However, the Foundation is a small charity and generally will not make awards of over £30,000 (per year). Funding can be requested for up to 2 years for any particular project.

Reapplications are welcome however unsuccessful applicants are asked not to reapply for at least 12 months from the date of their rejection letter. Successful applicants are asked to wait five years before reapplying.

The Foundation receives thousands of telephone and email enquiries and hundreds of completed applications each year, making the grant award process highly competitive. To help us to help you, please read our application guidelines and restrictions carefully. Unfortunately, with a limited grant fund we are unable to respond favourably to all requests, however worthy. We provide specific feedback on grant rejections where guidance and improvements can be made however due to the volume we are unable to provide specific feedback to first round rejections given the competitive nature of the process.

Deadlines
Due to high demand on our limited grant fund, deadlines have now been introduced. Please ensure your completed application is received both electronically and hard copy by 5.30pm on the date indicated in order to be considered. Applications should be sent by email to [email protected]
Eligible applications received after the deadline will be retained for the next funding round. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. All received applications are acknowledged by email, once the hard copy has been received and logged.

2013 Deadlines:

    12 February 2013
    8 May 2013
    30 July 2013

Sponsored Grants
There is no application process for Sponsored Grants. Hilton team members work with the Foundation to make these grants to local charities and schools that they have identified and nominated. Nominated causes must fall within our giving remits and relationships are maintained locally.

Giveaways
From time to time the Foundation runs local grant giveaways with local newspapers.

Raffle Prizes and Auction Prizes
In response to huge ongoing demand from charities and good causes, Hilton Worldwide hotels have agreed to donate a limited number of accommodation vouchers for use by charities for raffle or auction prizes at their fundraising events. The Foundation manages this process and to enter the monthly draw to receive a voucher, requests should be made by email to [email protected]

Whether successful or unsuccessful, to maintain a fair response we require that organisations leave a gap of three months between each request. Please note that once awarded, these vouchers cannot be transferred, extended or exchanged. Restrictions apply and it is the responsibility of the winning charity to inform their supporters of all conditions prior to the auction/raffle.

Accommodation Partnership
The Foundation has an ongoing partnership with Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity. This charity grants wishes to children with serious and life-limiting illnesses aged between 3 and 18 across the United Kingdom. By providing accommodation to these children and their families whilst on their wishes the Foundation is able to save the charity funds enabling them to undertake even more wishes.
