Morocco earthquake
$15,000

On 23rd February 2004, an earthquake registering 6.5 on the Richter scale rocked Northern Morocco. More than 560 people were killed, with most of the dead being women and children, as the majority of the men of the area work overseas.
Portions of the densely populated coastal community of Al Hoceima were flattened, along with hundreds of mud-brick homes in villages south of the city. The area affected is thought to be inhabited by between 300,000 and 400,000 people.
The Foundation made a grant for $15,000 and the distribution of funds was undertaken by Hilton Rabat's General Manager, Olivier de Kermel. Much of the money has been used in the rebuilding and restoration of local schools.
