With so many fun and imaginative fundraising events taking place across the hotels and clubs, we are unable to share news of everything. But in this archive please find a selection of events that capture the energy and giving spirit of Hilton and LivingWell colleagues as they raise funds for disadvantaged young people!

15 September 2007 will be the day to ‘dust off your trainers’ and get involved in an effort to raise funds for the Foundation in its bid to help partially sighted and blind children.

Celebrity Love Island star, Lady Isabella Hervey launched the event at the London Hilton. She has already signed up to take part on the day! Will you?
   
 
1 June: Hilton St Anne’s Manor Ball
Once again, Angela Haworth and the team at St Anne’s Manor delivered a fabulous black tie ball at zero cost - what an achievement! £9,320 was raised through table sales, auction and raffle prizes. Chairman of the Trustees, Hugh Taylor, welcomed guests with a speech, which included a moving message of thanks from a parent of a disabled child at sponsored charity Palmer Junior School, which the hotel has been supporting through the Foundation since 2004. Angela has already sold 4 tables for next year’s ‘Diamonds and Tiaras’ Ball on 22 June!
   
 
Thank you to Angela Verma who completed a 60-mile cardio expedition by bike and other gym equipment for the Foundation. Raising for her cluster, £415.54 will be divided between Hilton Puckrup Hall, Hilton Milton Keynes and Hilton Warwick. We hope Angela will be taking part in ‘Around the World in a Day’!
   
 
A brave Paddington Bear joined Hadleigh Goldman from Hilton London Paddington in the London-to-Brighton bike ride on 17 June, raising nearly £500 for the Foundation. Alongside 27,000 other cyclists, the 5 hour ride was Hadleigh’s third attempt and he and Paddington whizzed along at speeds of up to 39 mph.
   
 
Sponsors of sailing charity AHOY (Adventure, Help and Opportunities for Youth) in the deprived area of Deptford enjoyed a day filled of water-based activities led by their young ‘shipmates’. Colleagues from Hilton London Docklands, Hilton London Olympia and the Foundation office were delighted with an extensive tour of the grounds led by two of the young people, 8-year old Tamsin and 17-year old Declan. Braver visitors also enjoyed a heart-stopping speedboat ride along the Thames. A Foundation grant of £21,292.50 enabled the charity to buy two sailing dinghies and safety equipment.
   
 
Colleagues at Hilton London Docklands celebrate their winter raffle draw looking out on the River Thames. The raffle raised £1,877 for the Foundation and chosen charity, the Evelina Children’s Hospital Appeal. Thank you to Deborah Hadley the organiser and to all those who bought and sold tickets.

The last day of the Spring term was even more exciting than usual for the children of Kents Hill School in Milton Keynes, because they were invited to an Easter Tea Party at the Hilton Milton Keynes. Nearly 100 children, and their families, enjoyed a sumptuous High Tea. Chocolate cakes piled high with mini-eggs proved very popular! Guests were entertained by the Great Gappo and the Easter Bunny.

Events like these involving parents and children are helping us to build an ever greater sense of community within the school as well helping to raise money for the school." The event raised £540 for the Foundation, half of which will be contributed back to the school, together with a sponsored grant of £1,123.50 from funds raised by the hotel last year.

   
 
Foundation-funded charity The No Way Trust delivers Crime Awareness Days to school children across the UK. Police, prison officers and other emergency services personnel volunteer to educate young people about the realities and consequences of criminal behaviour. Colleagues from Hilton Templepatrick attended Hazelwood College and took part in the awareness activities and prize-giving, the first full Crime Awareness Day to take place in Northern Ireland.
   
 
The Foundation awarded £28,417.08 to the Foundation for Conductive Educationthis, a small charity in the Midlands, to enable 18-24 year olds with cerebral palsy and acquired brain injuries the opportunity to ‘Learn to Live Your Life’. Based at Hereward College in Coventry, the project focuses on learning (or re-learning) skills such as putting on shoes, hygiene and cosmetic care and walking unaided. Andrew Swindells, GM of Hilton Birmingham Metropole, joined Jo Rolfe and Krissy Sampy from the Foundation office to present this second grant to the charity.
   
 
Charitable giving to young people in need was celebrated with a special campaign launched by Hilton Dundee and the Dundee Evening Telegraph. Supported through the hotel’s fundraising efforts for the Foundation, local charities were invited to apply for a share of £10,000 to fund various grassroots projects helping young people.
   
 
It was smiles all round as a total of £2,200 was donated by Hilton Sheffield to five local charities.
   
 
10 July: Waldorf Hilton Gala Dinner
Congratulations to the Waldorf team for hosting a night to remember in aid of the Foundation. Guests were treated to West End show ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ followed by dinner with star of the show Elaine Paige and her supporting cast. Trips to Beijing and Tokyo helped the event raise more than £20,000. Well done to organisers Daniel, Paula, Debra and everybody who helped.
   
   
 
8 June: Hilton St Helens Diamond Ball
The hotel celebrated their first black tie ball for the Foundation, with half the funds raised going to Claire House Children’s Hospice. Well done to the whole team who all got involved and helped make the night a success, especially organiser Maria McGrath.
   
 
Good luck to Oliver and Simon and all the competitors at London Hilton on Park Lane who are holding a pumpkin growing competition for the Foundation.
   
 

Those big hearted souls at Hilton St Helen's supported their local charity Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, not only with sponsored grants totalling £1,909 but also gave up a day in April to paint the toilets at the hospice.

A small group of colleagues from Hilton Newcastle Gateshead visited the Percy Hedley Foundation to see where their hard-earned funds would be going. A grant of £2,794 was made from the hotel’s 2006 fundraising. Together with half the proceeds of the Ball, these funds will be used to help equip the early years nursery with specialist furniture, games and equipment.
   
 
19 May: Hilton Newcastle Gateshead’s Spring Ball
The mood was festive at the hotel’s annual Foundation Ball, this year in aid of local charity The Percy Hedley Foundation, which supports children and young people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. More than £22,000 (gross) was raised and professional sports coach Steve ‘Blackie’ Black helped bring the auction a celebrity touch. Lucky dips, tombolas and a Wheel of Fortune helped raise smiles as well as thousands of pounds for the Foundation. Well done to Lindsey Rivington and team for putting on an excellent event.
   
 
12 May: Hilton Avisford Park Spring Ball
Avisford Park colleagues opened the doors of their newly refurbished ballroom to guests with a special charity ball in aid of the Foundation and local charity Chestnut House Children’s Hospice. Howard Lewis, GM, presented a cheque to the hospice for £5,021 which was raised during last year’s Small Change, Big Difference campaign.
   
 
12 May: Hilton London Kensington’s Spring Ball
With the Ballroom decked out in fabulous pink and green chiffon, guests felt a spring in their step. More than £10,000 was raised for the Foundation and for chosen charity Help a London Child. Congratulations to organiser Antony Lynch, Head Concierge and Foundation Champion at the hotel, and his team of willing volunteers.
   
 
Colleagues from all the Hilton and Conrad properties in Ireland joined forces to climb Mount Leinster in aid of the Foundation and their sponsored local causes including the ISPCC. 78 employees ascended the mountain in very cold and foggy conditions. This has become an annual event and the sponsorship money is still pouring in. Thank you to everybody who took part.
   
 
The 2007 Foundation Champion Workshop brought together Hilton colleagues and representatives from across the UK and Ireland to share new ideas and to discuss best practice for fundraising, as well as to celebrate their outstanding success in 2006.

The biggest congratulations go to the team at Hilton Craigendarroch for winning the 2006 Top Fundraising Hotel award in the UK and Ireland, achieving 281% of their fundraising target!

   
 
Hilton in the Community Foundation awarded The Ear Foundation £11,564 for the purchase of audiovisual equipment for the charity’s Education and Resource Centre. The Ear Foundation is a support and information network for young people who are at varying stages of deafness and who have cochlear implants. The audiovisual equipment will allow the charity to upgrade their old equipment and allow for better recognition and realisation of each young person’s specific disability. Moira Banks and colleagues from Hilton Nottingham joined Christopher Biggins and Basil Brush at a special handover ceremony.
   
 
Participants beg Chef for food during Hilton Dublin City’s 24-hour fast. 12 members completed the fast and the event raised €800!
   
 
The reception was far from frosty at The Snow Ball, held on 17 March at Hilton Brighton Metropole. Over £60,000 was raised as 450 guests thronged into the Ballroom which had been transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The funds will be shared with The Argus Appeal, which supports disadvantaged young people in and around Brighton, to launch a ‘Snow Ball Minibus Fund’.

Top tribute band the ‘Bootleg Beatles’ entertained guests with classics hits. A big well done and enormous thank you to all the organisers for a fantastic evening!

   
 
The Foundation has made its biggest grant to date, following the latest ‘Small Change, Big Difference’ campaign. Representatives from the Association of Children’s Hospices (ACH) were delighted to accept a cheque for a whopping £195,830. The grant will be shared equally between 39 children’s hospices across the UK for ‘Big Difference’ weekends, introducing life-limited children and their families to the specialist services provided by the hospices.

Trustees of the Foundation made the presentation during a special ceremony at the second Annual Foundation Champion Workshop, which was held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on 19 February.

   
 
Conrad and Hilton guests also enabled Small Change, Big Difference to raise a massive €9,202 in Ireland for charity The Children’s Sunshine Home, which is building the first children’s hospice in Dublin, Laura Lynn House. Area General Manager Friedrich Schaefer presented this total to Philomena Dunne, CEO of the charity and Jane McKenna, who lost her two daughters Laura and Lynn, after whom the new hospice will be named.
   
 
The U10 Vipers Leicester Rugby team proudly wear their new team shirts supported by a sponsored grant of £550 from Hilton Leicester.
   
 
Adam ‘Braveheart’ Peters from Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor was clad only in shorts as he jumped into the freezing River Forth on New Year’s Day for the ‘Looney Dook’ to raise more than £280 for the Foundation!
   
 
Mon Dieu! Those energetic colleagues at Hilton Portsmouth held a ‘Tour de France’ event in the hotel lobby, raising £365 for the Foundation in just one day. Above, Lesley Bowen from the Front Office team free-wheeling!
   
 
Congratulations to the ‘fabulous five’ from Hilton Newbury Centre who completed the Reading Half Marathon for the Foundation on 25 March! Russell Cox, Dominique Budavari, Graham Lewis, Andy Snape and Stephane Weit have now signed up for the Bracknell Half Marathon later this year!
   
 
Legal Team colleagues from Maple Court donned wigs, Foundation t-shirts and flowers to entertain with special birthday ‘Sing-a-Grams’ at £10 a go! Michaela Bishop, Dianne Perrin, Jillian Negrini, Hue Smith, Brian Wilson, John Nelson and Chris Heath sang to and embarrassed their unsuspecting victims!
   
 
The road is long... Thanks to support from Maple Court colleagues, Mike Huish from Orange PLC cycles 500km in 6 days in Cambodia for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a Foundation charity which has received funding for a teen cancer ward in University College Hospital, Cardiff and which will benefit from the fundraising efforts of Hilton London Olympia in 2007.

The Foundation Ball at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Saturday 14th October 2006 raised over £15,000 for charity. This included supporting the building of two emergency rooms at the Shoot Star Children's Hospice. For more picture highlights.

 

 
 
Even the harshest of weather conditions couldn't deter an eager Yvonne Hand and her team of hikers from Hilton Dublin Airport who braved the elements during a sponsored climb to the summit of Mount Leinster in Co. Wexford Ireland on the 11th February to raise €4,000 for the Foundation! It looks like some well-deserved hot toddies were in order!!
 
 
The Snow Ball held on Saturday 25th February at the Hilton Brighton Metropole in association with Southern FM was hailed the best yet, with a massive £71,500 raised! This was double the amount raised last year and was largely due to the team’s hard work in securing event sponsorship from Peter Webb of Unicorn Asset Management.
 
 
Colleagues at Hilton London Docklands donned silly blonde wigs for a 70’s theme night which raised £460 for the Foundation - Groovy!
   
 
Philip Lassman and the team at Hilton Islington organised and delivered an action packed 5-a-side football tournament on 5th February in the energising surroundings of Highbury football stadium. The event attracted Hilton teams from all over the UK, raising over £2500 for the Foundation. Congratulations again to Hilton Caledonian who lifted the trophy and proved that they did not win by fluke the first time!!
 
 
Hilton London Heathrow Airport 'pipped the post' yet again with an extremely successful Race Night held on Friday 3rd March. The night, which included a raffle and a disco was organised to help raise funds for Stuart Brown and Ed Riches from the hotel who are taking part in this years Flora London Marathon on behalf of the Foundation and raising money for Whizz Kidz. The night proved to be the biggest winner raising over £3,000!
 
 
Haggis, neeps and tatties were on the menu at Hilton Dundee's George Duffus memorial Burn's Supper Night on Friday the 20th January. 120 people attended the evening, raising over £1,400!
 
 

2005
   
 
Two brave men at the trafalgar participated in a leg waxing competition for the Foundation. Believing 'pain is gain' Tom Howard and Bhavik (Steve) Thakkar raised £120! They created a fun and entertaining event, where colleagues enjoyed placing bids for wax strips and then having the pleasure of ripping the hair off their legs - Ouch!! We're not sure if it's all grown back yet…
   
 
Maybe the most energetic event of this period was the sponsored London-Brighton Bike Ride. Organised by the sales team at Maple Court and Hilton Brighton Metropole, the great news is that all the 9 cyclists who took part finished the course and raised £1,990… although there may have been a few minor disputes amongst those competing as to which order they crossed the finishing line!
   
 
Colleagues at Hilton Dundee also undertook a gruelling 30-mile sponsored hike from Hilton Dunkeld back to base, raising £1,000 through sponsorship and collection-boxes and a further £400 from a table-top sale and other activities at the hotel. The August bank holiday yielded rain, wind and sun - but the 6.30am start did not stop two of the walkers going clubbing on return to Dundee!
   
 
Fore!! London’s Wembley Plaza hosted another very successful Golf Day in September, which raised £6,638 for the Foundation. As well as an opportunity to improve their swing, players drawn from local business contacts enjoyed a dinner event after the Day. A total of £5,000 was granted to the hotel’s chosen cause, special training courses for young people by the London Fire Brigade.
   
 
On a spooky theme, Hilton Warwick had a hotel Halloween party, just one of the staff events they have held over the year. Here the gang are in their scary costumes!
   
 
The summer started very well for Hilton St Anne's Manor, who raised £7,152 from their Ball. Chocoholics were thrilled with the chocolate fountain... The team worked really hard and sourced all the entertainment and gifts for free, an amazing feat. Next year's event is already sold out, and the Ball looks set to become an annual fixture!
   
 
Hilton Cardiff hosted a glitzy Fashion Show in conjunction with M&S and Red Dragon FM. The event raised £3,390 and also provided an opportunity to award a central grant of £4,500 to the Christian Lewis Trust Children's Cancer Charity.
   
 
On yer bike!...Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor raised an impressive £585.53 between 8 colleagues who cycled from Glasgow to Largs on the west coast, their excursion including a ferry ride! Jennifer McNeil, HR Manager said 'It was a fab day and there is talk of making it an annual event. Hilton Aberdeen Treetops also ran a tremendously successful bike ride to Hilton Craigendarroch - a total of 41 miles! Everybody made it, taking 5 hours in total.
   
 
Hilton Bristol launched 500 Foundation balloons, sponsored by people at £1 at a time during the city's summer fête in June.
   
 
Forget Big Brother and Celebrity Wrestling. This summer Hilton Warwick undertook their very own “I'm a Hilton Employee, Get Me Out Of Here!!” Undertaking different tasks each week, a 'favourite' soon emerged! Contestants will subject themselves to votes at 50p a time until a winner is crowned.
   
 
Hilton Croydon reports a highly successful 70's Night held on 22nd April in support of their local charity, Red Gates School. This is becoming a popular fixture, raising well over £3,000 each year. The evening consisted of a 3-course dinner and a 70's 11-piece band, Dr Funkenstein and the Feelgood Factor. Additional funds were raised through a raffle, comprising great prizes generously donated by colleagues at various Hilton hotels.
   
 
As well as participation in the Flora Half London Marathon in aid of the Foundation, in April Hilton London Docklands held a Race Night which raised over £1,000. Some of this total came through sponsorship (bets against!) for Sharon Waye, Human Resource Manager, who successfully gave up smoking and as a result, her fellow Heads of Departments and the General Manager put £75 towards the Foundation. Well done Sharon!
   
 
Britney Spears, The Undertones and even Elvis was in the building! Hilton Blackpool rocked on 15th May to a host of tunes performed by colleagues and friends to a 350-strong audience. Following a call for wannabe superstars and coordination by Mick Lancashire (Kitchen Stewards Supervisor a.k.a. Cher), 11 acts performed. The evening began with three performances by pupils from the local Highfield High School. The Hilton staff followed, with Marianne Lawson, who performed as Shania Twain, winning the evening.
   
 
How far do you think one balloon could go from Swindon? The team at Hilton Swindon along with children from the Brimble Hill School found out when they released 400 balloons in aid of the Hilton in the Community Foundation. One balloon made it 763 miles to Ettersdorf in Germany!
   
 
Ameeta Chauhan from Hilton London Metropole raised £850 through a sponsored weight loss. Ameeta said, “My goal was to lose 6kg but as I like to go the extra mile I lost 12kg - 2 stones in 12 weeks! LivingWell set out a programme and with their full support I achieved my goal.” Well done Ameeta! Here she is (left) rubbing shoulders with Sarah Berrand from ITV1’s ‘Footballer’s Wives’.
   
 
Another great way to raise funds, Hilton London Metropole sold Christmas trees in their lobby. Companies were given the chance to sponsor and decorate with their own logo-themed decorations. This innovative idea raised over £6,000 for the Foundation. Rather more risqué was their naked calendar, which raised over £2,000 (and a few eyebrows!).
   
 
The Waldorf Hilton hosted a very special evening for suppliers, friends and guests. The Palm Court was transformed into a Winter Wonderland and guests enjoyed a champagne reception before being taken to see The Rat Pack at the Adelphi Theatre. Members of The Rat Pack cast and from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang also treated the guests to a special performance of Christmas carols during the after-show dinner. A night to remember and a great fundraiser!
   
 
Hilton Glasgow held their first charity ceilidh, which raised £5,442. 180 guests came along on the night and enjoyed a real traditional night of Scottish entertainment. There was a fantastic raffle, which included Hilton weekend breaks and donations from our suppliers. Children's 1st was nominated to receive 50% of the funds raised on the evening.
   
 
58 hotels in 48-hours with 19 people in 4 cars and not forgetting the teddy bears! The 2004 Teddy Bear's Picnic was a great success for the team at Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor raising over £5,000 for the Foundation.
