Set yourself a target, tell people how much you are aiming to raise – a high target really motivates people to help you on your way. |
2. |
Start your sponsorship form off with your best sponsors; this will help set a trend. |
3. |
Smile! Be encouraging and never feel guilty about asking people to sponsor you. |
4. |
Set up your own fundraising page, www.justgiving.com/hitcf/raisefunds. This will enable you to gain sponsorship from all those people who you may not see before your event. |
5. |
Personalise your Justgiving webpage with photos, training diary, target-ometer, etc. |
6. |
Set up a widget (a mini version of a fundraising page). These can be posted anywhere online from blogs to webpages, letting people see your fundraising progress. To set up a widget, click on ‘market my page’ on your Justgiving webpage. |
7. |
Use your local clubs, gym, pubs and anyone else to see if they have any connections you can use. |
8. |
Don’t forget pay day - this is an ideal time to ask for sponsorship! |
9. |
Collect the pledge straight away – most people sponsor you a total donation, not per mile, so why not ask there and then. This will save you time after the event. |
10. |
Don’t forget Gift Aid, this can make your sponsorship almost a third more at no extra cost or work! All you have to do is ensure that all sponsors who are UK taxpayer fill in their full name and address and tick the Gift Aid box on our form. |
11. |
Carry your sponsorship form everywhere you go, so you don’t miss an opportunity. |
12. |
Use other types of fundraising to boost your funds, such as a raffle, coffee morning, cake stall, sweepstake etc. |
13. |
After the event, make sure that you thank everyone who sponsored you as this may encourage them to sponsor you next time! |
